Remember the phrase “I can’t believe it’s not butter!”? Well, I can’t believe the universal color for spring in fashion, makeup, furniture, dishware and housewares, etc. is orange.
You may remember the year when we were subjected to avocado washers, dryers and refrigerators. And everything else avocado… and then there was harvest gold. Now the soon-to-be ubiquitous color called Tangerine Tango is beginning to show its brilliant face.
I’ve read that even orange false eyelashes are already on one store’s shelf. And the Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah, recently installed a luxury ski lift called the Bubble Express. It has heated chairs in bright orange.
Each season when visiting the New York market, we immediately recognize colors and designs that are repeated over and over again in collection after collection. Orange (Pantone 17-1463 to be exact) was popping out on all the Spring 2012 collection racks in showrooms and trade shows.
Other brights including tantalizing pink and chartreuse accompany this reddish orange hue as we usher in Charlotte, 2012.
Perhaps we do need a color that evokes a fireball this time of the year – the time of year when the sun seems to be hidden by bitter cold and dreary clouds The downpour of Tangerine Tango may serve to recharge us as we make new beginnings at work and play in a new year. Orange could help restore our spirits and provide us the energy we’ll need to move forward in an optimistic and positive way.
So begin to think oranges and Florida. That’s where we‘re headed. And will someone please pass on the message to those at Duke Energy responsible for lighting up Charlotte’s evening sky?

To understand the importance of the alligator belt, consider for a moment why women love diamonds. Yes, they’re sparkly, but if you think that is the only reason women love diamonds, you’re sorely mistaken. Diamonds are timeless, every one is 100% unique, and they generally commemorate a special occasion—a graduation, a milestone birthday, or a wedding anniversary—so they have sentimental value as well.
In the same way, the beauty of alligator lies in its absolute uniqueness. And because no two skins are alike, the alligator belt plays a distinctive role in the men’s style story. True to the reptile from which it comes, alligator is fierce, slick, and makes a statement, not to mention durable. Like diamond earrings, the alligator belt is one that never goes out of style, so they also make great gifts on memorable occasions.
If your shopping budget just doesn’t allow an alligator belt, save up…or explore the imitation options. There are plenty of well-done imitation grain leather belts out there for half the price, but they just don’t have quite the luster nor do they last as long. (We sell both in our shop by the way.) Whichever route you decide to take, always try the belt on before you leave the store. Don’t assume it will fit just because it is labeled as the right size.
When scanning the belt rack, you will almost always find the alligator varieties priced at the top of the range. Depending on where and how they are manufactured, gator belts can run you 3 to 6 Benjamins, or maybe more. But to the sartorially savvy man with his own distinguished look, this is an integral accessory.
So if you are starting your Christmas shopping or writing to Santa, put a gator belt on your list. It may take a large bite out of the budget, but the recipient will proudly wear it for many years and think of you each time he slides it through his belt loops.

The tide is rising on college campuses up and down the east coast this season. Southern Tide has become the brand of choice among college students everywhere. Why has it caught on so well?
Southern Tide is primarily known for their colorful knit shirts with the skipjack logo. The last two seasons they have expanded their offerings to include chinos, rugby shirts, cotton sweaters, shorts, swimwear, t-shirts, and now jeans. Their knits are available in all of the official college colors.
They have a fit that is flattering and gives the appearance of a trimmer look. The knits are cotton with 3 percent spandex which gives the fabric some stretch. This blend enables the shirts to perform and maintain their shape better.
Lastly the brand is design by Allen Stephenson who is in his early 20’s. He understands what college men are looking to wear on campus when going to class or to a fraternity party on the weekend.
This holiday season join us for our Southern Tide trunk show December 2nd and 3rd. It is a great opportunity to make it a Southern Tide Christmas for your boyfriend, brother, son or father. We will have gift with purchase for these two days and a drawing to win a gift certificate for more Southern Tide merchandise. Paul Simon is Charlotte’s Southern Tide destination.
