Remember the phrase “I can’t believe it’s not butter!”? Well, I can’t believe the universal color for spring in fashion, makeup, furniture, dishware and housewares, etc. is orange.
You may remember the year when we were subjected to avocado washers, dryers and refrigerators. And everything else avocado… and then there was harvest gold. Now the soon-to-be ubiquitous color called Tangerine Tango is beginning to show its brilliant face.
I’ve read that even orange false eyelashes are already on one store’s shelf. And the Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah, recently installed a luxury ski lift called the Bubble Express. It has heated chairs in bright orange.
Each season when visiting the New York market, we immediately recognize colors and designs that are repeated over and over again in collection after collection. Orange (Pantone 17-1463 to be exact) was popping out on all the Spring 2012 collection racks in showrooms and trade shows.
Other brights including tantalizing pink and chartreuse accompany this reddish orange hue as we usher in Charlotte, 2012.
Perhaps we do need a color that evokes a fireball this time of the year – the time of year when the sun seems to be hidden by bitter cold and dreary clouds The downpour of Tangerine Tango may serve to recharge us as we make new beginnings at work and play in a new year. Orange could help restore our spirits and provide us the energy we’ll need to move forward in an optimistic and positive way.
So begin to think oranges and Florida. That’s where we‘re headed. And will someone please pass on the message to those at Duke Energy responsible for lighting up Charlotte’s evening sky?
